Our faculty and students would like to thank Mr. Jason Tompkins for the brilliantly illustrated lecture he conducted regarding Fashion Styling on Monday, March 21st. It was extremely enlightening for the students to learn about his humble beginnings, and the road he traveled to becoming an experienced professional.

Jason’s presentation, coupled with the beautiful visuals of various styling vignettes, was both inspirational and educational. Students learned how fashion stylists are an important part of a larger creative team; that they collaborate with designers, hair stylists, and many others, to put together a particular look for a specific project. Much of the information that he expanded upon will be greatly useful forthe students as they begin working on the production of the program’s Annual Student Fashion Show, which will take place on Saturday, April 30th, 2016.

Jason is a gifted fashion designer and is currently a freelance fashion stylist working with OneKreate, Under Armour, and 3Clothing. Additionally Jason has worked as a stylist for a number of international publications such as Factice Paris, London Financial Times, Surface Magazine, Archetype Magazine, Models.com, Vestal Magazine, Essential Homme, Success Magazine, and the television show, The Face Holland. At Stevenson University, he was a guest critic in the Fashion Design program’s advanced patternmaking classes, and he also served as a judge during the Nolcha Fashion Week NYC 2016 student competition. A member of the program’s Advisory Board, Jason continues to utilize the talents of several of our design and merchandising students as interns during his creative assignments.

His educational background includes a degree in Apparel Technology from Baltimore City Community College (BCCC) and a degree from the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in NYC. Most recently Jason received a Certificate of Completion from the Condé Nast College of Fashion & Design in London. During his time at BCCC, he produced the Fashion Design program’s Annual Student Fashion Show for two years. At FIT, Jason received the prestigious Critics Choice Award for innovative fashion designing. He then went on to work for several years, back stage and the front-of-house, on production teams for the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week NYC in Bryant Park.

Stevenson University and the Fashion Design program are fortunate to have his continued support.
