Sophomore biochemistry major Shelbie Baird (far right) appeared onstage for the Stevenson production Cabaret! which ran last weekend.

Shelbie, a native of Richmond, Virginia, has been dancing most of her life and enjoys performing. We hope to see you on stage again in the future, Shelbie!

Students who participated in study abroad courses were asked to submit their favorite photos for a Travel and Culture Photo Contest. The winning photo was taken during the Chemistry Department’s Herbal Remedies and Medicines course which took place in the 2018 Winter term. Senior Akeweh Fondong was one of 23 students and four faculty that traveled to Ecuador. Akeweh studied herbal medicines and remedies, visiting the Ecuadorian Amazon as part of his travel course experience. His photo, “Enjoying Nature and the Beautiful Weather,” was taken on the Tiputini River.

The honors general chemistry students performed feats of science for onlookers this week as part of their course requirement. The students took 100% ownership of their demonstrations by researching not only the needed chemicals and equipment, but all aspects of the experiment including proper waste disposal and necessary personal protective equipment. During the demo they narrated what they were doing and afterwards explained the scientific principles being demonstrated. The full album can be viewed here.

In celebration of Undergraduate Research week, faculty and students involved in research of all types spent some time in the MAC Lobby this week sharing their exceptional experiences. Senior Bio student Anna Chippi and her research mentor chemistry faculty member Dr. Tracey Mason answered questions about their work on Tuesday afternoon. #URW2018

Senior chemistry major Krystine Hill was honored by the American Chemical Society Maryland Section this past Sunday. Students are nominated by their faculty. The award meeting is held each year to celebrate students from participating institutions allowing friends, family and teachers to celebrate their accomplishments. Krystine is pictured here at the ceremony with Dr. Sara Narayan. Congratulations, Krystine!
