Did you know you can direct a donation to your favorite Stevenson school or even department?

Marisa Bender (BS chemistry ’10, MS forensic science ’11) chooses to donate to the Chemistry Department’s Instrument Fund. When asked why she donates, Marisa said: “When I discovered that I could donate specifically to Stevenson’s SOS, I immediately jumped at the opportunity to give back to the department that taught me so much. I truly wanted to give to the Chemistry Department because of the wonderful faculty who work tirelessly to provide the necessary education, equipment, and skills needed for students to succeed in their future careers.“

There are several designated funds that could use your help. If you choose to designate a gift, you may give it in honor or memory of a friend or loved one, and it cannot be used for anything else. When giving online, select the “other” designation and type in any specific department or cause you wish. Thank you, for giving back to Stevenson!

The chemistry department was thrilled to have a visit from alumni visiting during their spring break from pharmacy school. Alec Romanowski and Katie Abbott are both 2016 chemistry graduates, in their first year of the University at Buffalo Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences program, and on track to earn the PharmD degree. The entire department was on hand to say hello and welcome them back to Stevenson. We wish them continued success and hope to see them again soon! Junior biology major Anna Chippi (left) and senior biochemistry major Julie Davenport have been conducting research on human cancer cell lines this semester with chemistry faculty member Dr. Tracey Mason. They are looking at the influence on cell death by platinum-containing drugs with an alternative geometry to the current clinical chemotherapy agent Cisplatin. If drugs with a different mechanism of action are discovered, this can help cancer patients with tumors that have developed resistance to Cisplatin during treatment.

Junior chemistry major Krystine Hill and sophomore biochemistry major Sehlah Butt gave a Stevenson TED^x talk on February 25. They each focused on challenges they have faced in their life due to gender, ethnicity or choice of major. Both talks can be viewed here on Facebook. Inspiring messages!
