Congratulations to our 2014 Applied Math graduates! We’re proud of each of you and excited to watch you leave SU and begin your careers. Best wishes to Applied Math Major Jenna Carr. Jenna is the third sibling in her family to graduate from SU. She is shown here with her sister, Mandi Carr, who is a chemist, and department chair, Dr. Ellen Roskes.

Jenna completed her Capstone Internship at the US Census Bureau. Based on the excellent job she did in her internship, Jenna was hired there as a fulltime employee. We’ll miss you, Jenna, but know you will be successful in this exciting position!

Anthony Carle was recognized at the May Celebration for obtaining the highest GPA of all graduating math seniors. Dr. Ellen Roskes presented himwith an award and a gift to celebrate his accomplishments. Congratulations Anthony! We’re glad your family members were able to see you given this honor!

Congratulations to Math Junior, Anna Foote, on being chosen as the recipient of the Slattery Scholarship for her senior year! This scholarship is in memory of Dr. Susan Slattery who was the Math Department Chair at Stevenson for many years. The recipient of this yearly award is a female student in the School of the Sciences who best exemplifies the values that Dr. Slattery believed in: hardworking, honest, fair, making school a priority, and caring. The recipient of the award was announced at the School of the Sciences May Celebration. Anna is shown here with her proud parents.

During the spring semester, math senior Travis Jennifer conducted research on black holes with SU astrophysicist Dr. Neal Miller. He studied an unusual class of objects that might represent a predicted but not conclusively demonstrated population of intermediate-sized black holes. Travis presented a poster of his research at the Spring School of the Sciences Poster Session.
