In early December 2018 our Public History Program joined together to celebrate the successful end to a great fall semester as we have for the last several years. It is always a great way to finish off a day of professional development. By reuniting with old friends, gathering with faculty in a low-key social setting, and celebrating our commitment to history, the program does an excellent job of creating a feeling of family and belonging.

One of the highlights of this year’s get together was receiving our new Public History Program mugs. With a logo designed by graduating senior Kaitlyn Webster, the mugs are a fitting tribute to the contributions our majors make to the program on a daily basis.

We said goodbye to three of our majors: Jenny Liles, Alexandra Henry, and Kaitlyn Webster. Absolutely wonderful students, each of them made their individual mark on the program. Jenny and Kaitlyn did their internships at the Baltimore Museum of Industry, leading to paid positions at that institution. Alex interned at Monocacy National Battlefield in Frederick, MD. There she pioneered an archival transition from recording items hardcopy in a book to a digital system We will miss their smiles, their contributions to our program, and their presence in History Forum. We wish them the best and will be inviting them back to break bread with us once again.

The evening’s showstopper was the duet sung by Professor “This isn’t a Santa Sweatshirt” McGraw, and stylishly retro Jenny Liles. All who attended agreed that we had never heard anything like it. 🙂 Kudos to our budding PHIST Choir!!!
