For our twenty-third episode (and fifth of the 2023-2024 academic year), we welcome sophomore FMI students Monty Bynum and Ben Kohn to discuss the films La Chimera and The Listener. The former comes from Italian director Alice Rohrwacher and will be released by Neon on Friday, March 29. It follows the strange and lyrical tale of an Englishman (Josh O’Connor) in central Italy who has the power to locate treasures below ground hidden in ancient Etruscan tombs. The latter film is directed by actor Steve Buscemi and trains its lens on a single character, a woman (Tessa Thompson) who works as a night-shift volunteer for a crisis line. It also comes out on Friday, March 29, and is distributed by Vertical Entertainment. As always, FMI Department Chair Chris Reed hosts.
