Here is your chance to show your designs at the prestigious New York Fashion Week. You can be a junior or senior in the fashion design program to be able to enter the competition. I interviewed Leah Aronhime, Fashion Design Studio Manager, who explained the project.

The students develop a garment from the theme – the “Little Black Dress Project.” The criteria is simple – to create an original, little black dress. Once the designs are created, each student will get the chance to present it in front of a panel of judges that are fashion industry specialists. Those judges will select 10 designs that will be shown at the 2017 New York Fashion Week. The students go to New York City a week before the show to do fittings, and then they go back on the day of the show.

I asked Leah what she hoped the students would gain from this experience, and she said, “I hope they are able to gain more experience, learn how to conduct themselves, learn how to work with models, and learn how to conduct fittings.” Fashion design students also participated in the 2016 New York Fashion Week, which took place February 15th, with the theme, “The Fine Art of Fashion.”
