We wish to sincerely thank Mr. Gary Cuddington and his team for including the children’s wear collection created by Stevenson Fashion Design junior students, as part of the Hood College Fashion-Photography Exhibit depicting ideas of “Home.” Our students, Abigail Austin, Rana Kurban, Amber Llyod, Sherese McLean, Kelsey Pearson, Na’Chelle Vaughans, and Jasmine Ward, were honored to be included in the exhibit and to showcase side-by-side with photography students from both institutions.
Our students and our Program Coordinator, Sally Di Marco, were unable to attend the opening night festivities because selected pieces of their globally inspired collection were gracing the runway that evening at the grand ballroom of the historic Hotel Pennsylvania during New York Fashion Week. Our Fashion Design program’s Senior Technician, Ms. Fara Topolsky spearheaded the project with Hood and worked with Mr. Cuddington during the installation phase, and single-handedly represented the Stevenson University’s Fashion Design program at the opening reception in a most professional manner.
The Stevenson University fashion design students offered a diverse technical fashion display that paid homage to global fashion. Their pieces were inspired by the traditional clothing of Egypt, the colors of Hawaii and Africa, the ethnic garments of India and Japan, the Royal family of England, and the drama of the matador’s cape of Spain. The collection captures the idea that home is where the heart is, and brings various interpretations of fashion back Home through fabric, texture, color, style, and environment.
