Students prepared and practiced chemistry magic to present during the Maryland STEM festival, a month-long celebration of science, technology, engineering and mathematics that takes place every Fall. Experiments like Elephant’s Toothpaste, Gummy Bear Sacrifice and fun with Bubbles were just a few of the exhibitions performed entirely by our science majors.

Biochemistry major Riley Schap along with Dr. Hudson completed an overnight ride along with the crime scene unit of Baltimore Police. Riley, who was just admitted into the 4+1 BS to MFS program at Stevenson was able to shadow Crime Scene tech Erika Harden on her shift. It was a quiet night for Baltimore City as Riley was able to observe Erika collect some shell casing evidence and document the injuries of an assault victim at a local hospital emergency room.

The Beverly K Fine School of the Sciences hosted a tent at the SU Homecoming tailgate to welcome alum and students. Faculty from the SOS were excited to see all the visitors!

Forensic Science faculty member Brittney Rollison (BS ’13/ MS’14) and Forensic Accrediation Program Manager at A2LA, presented a talk on the ISO/IEC 17025 vs ISO/IEC 17020 standards for the forensic laboratory and what each standard has to offer at the International Association of Identification Conference at National Harbor. She also stopped by to visit in the exhibition hall where representatives of SUO Forensics were available to answer questions about our programs.
