The department of Business Communication was busy at this year’s National Communication Association convention in Philadelphia. Faculty members (l-r) Stephanie Verni, Chip Rouse and Leeanne Bell taught a short course on their new textbook, “Event Planning: Communicating Theory and Practice.” Attendees included event planning teachers, professionals in the field of event planning, and members of hospitality departments.

Dr. Heather Harris and Dr. Leeanne Bell McManus participated in NCA’s Legislative Assemblies, and Dr. Harris presented in a panel called “Communicating Civic Callings: Muted, Marginalized, and Magnificent Black Women’s Voices,” which was chaired by Dr. Deric Greene. Dr. Bell McManus also participated in Eastern Communication Association Executive Council meetings and presented on a panel titled “Heeding the Call: Promoting Civic Engagement with Communication Ethics Activities and Resources forAny Class.” She also continued her work with the Communication Ethics division of NCA. Dr. Nadene Vevea, associate dean of the communication programs at Stevenson, also attended the convention.
