Spring Semester 2025
Interior Work Underway on the Berman Family Performing Arts Center
The new Sandra and Malcolm Berman Family Performing Arts Center continues to take shape. See the current progress for yourself in the interior tour video above. When finished, the Berman Family Performing Arts Center will enrich campus life by hosting theater, music, and dance, fashion shows, guest speakers, and other cultural events. Construction is slated to be complete by Summer 2026.

Biochem Major Attends Selective University of Florida Career Exploration Program
Stevenson Biochemistry major Savannah Lacey participated in the University of Florida Cancer Center’s Career Explorations Program in February. She was one of 30 undergraduates selected from across the nation, and was provided with an all-expenses paid visit to the National Cancer Institute (NCI) designated University of Florida (UF) Health Cancer Center.

Stevenson Recognized as NSA Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense
Stevenson has been officially designated as a National Security Agency (NSA) Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense (CAE-CD) for our Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity and Digital Forensics and the Master of Science in Cybersecurity and Digital Forensics program. The prestigious recognition underscores our commitment to cybersecurity education and workforce development.

Legal Studies Major Holds Marine Corps Commissioning in Pugh Courtroom
Legal Studies major Zachary Essamuah was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps in Stevenson’s Francis X. Pugh Courtroom on Friday, January 31. Zachary, a senior graduating in May, specifically requested to be commissioned in the Pugh Courtroom. The ceremony was attended by Zachary’s family and friends, as well as Stevenson faculty and staff.

Bachelor’s in Healthcare Management Receives IACBE Accreditation
Stevenson’s Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Management program has been externally accredited by the International Accreditation Council for Business Education (IACBE). Healthcare Management is the sixth Brown School of Business and Leadership program to receive IACBE accreditation, the leading outcomes-based professional accreditation agency for business and management education in colleges and universities.

Students Present Research at Ecological Society of America Meeting
Six Stevenson students and three faculty members from the Department of Biological Sciences attended the annual meeting of the Mid-Atlantic Chapter of the Ecological Society of America held in early April at Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square, PA. At the conference, the students and faculty presented research they had jointly conducted.

Mock Trial Ends Successful Spring 2025 Season
Stevenson’s Mock Trial program ended its Spring 2025 Season after competing at the American Mock Trial Association Regional Tournament hosted by the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, from February 21-23. This season, Mock Trial team members took home a number of awards, with many going to first-year Mock Trial team members.

Outstanding Students Recognized at 2025 Dell Lecture
Stevenson held its 17th Dell Lecture on Thursday, March 27. The annual event recognized two outstanding students—one from the Beverly K. Fine School of the Sciences and one from the Howard S. Brown School of Business and Leadership—with the Geraldine and Sam Dell Scholarship. This year, the scholarship was awarded to junior Business Administration major Anthony Breen and junior Biomedical Engineering major Alex Reimert.
Fine School of the Sciences Students Publish Research
Students Savannah Lacey, Lydia Yates, Aliah Richardson, and Camarla Dunkley published their research from the Honors General Chemistry II Lab course with Jeremy Burkett in the peer-reviewed Journal of Undergraduate Chemistry Research. Their work is titled, “Development of a Novel Carbon-Based Sensor for the Detection of Dissolved Metal Ions Using Leucobryum Glaucum.
Accounting Major Awarded $500 at Maryland Student Venture Showcase
Jubelo Oyeniran, senior Accounting major and Student Government Association President, won a $500 award at the MD Student Venture Showcase on February 18. Oyeniran received the prize for his pitch on Kairos Nexus, an innovative social enterprise focused on using technology to match parties in need of outsourcing products or services with those who can provide them in the US, Nigeria, and beyond.
2025 Student Scholarly and Creative Works Summer Grant Winners
Psychology major Jasmine Sheikh and Healthcare Management major Erika Wakpar were awarded 2025 Student Scholarly and Creative Works Summer Grants. This competitive award will support their proposed research. Jasmine Sheikh will work with Assistant Professor of Psychology Dr. James Schaffer to create an electroencephalography (EEG) laboratory to examine human brain activity. Erika Wakpar will use her grant to further her proposal—The Threads that Bind Us—to research how fiber arts can be used to support mental health awareness, resilience, and help build a therapeutic community among college students.
Stevenson University’s Bachelor’s to Master’s Option
Stevenson’s Bachelor’s to Master’s Option is the affordable and accelerated way students—like Logan Beaty in the video above—can earn their master’s degree. With just one extra year of online study, faster than traditional onsite master’s programs, students can earn a Stevenson master’s degree and prepare themselves for specialized careers in fields such as business, technology, healthcare, education, communication, forensics.

Elena Volkova, Associate Professor of Art and Graphic Design, had her photography featured in a two-person exhibit, In Silver and Earth, at the Bmore Art Connect+Collect Gallery in Baltimore.
James Borelli, Assistant Professor of Biomedical Engineering, published the article, “Asymptomatic Carotid Stenosis is Associated with Mobility Dysfunction: Results from the InChianti Study” in Vascular and Endovascular Surgery.
Colin May, Adjunct Professor of Criminal Justice, published the article, “The Language of Health Care: A Key Tool in Fraud Examinations,” on the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners’ Insights blog.
Chris Metzger, Professor and Department Chair of the Art and Graphic Design program, and Graphic Design alum, Jalen Thomas ’12, had an excerpt of their project, “Chamber of Echoes, Spaces of Hope,” published in the most recent release of the Homie House Press Publication Even the Score, Academia, Volume V.
Mark Lortz, Director of Music and Associate Professor of Music, presented his dissertation research at the prestigious Midwest Clinic International Band and Orchestra Conference in Chicago.
Susan Scherr, Associate Professor of Nursing, published her article, “The Meaningful Engagement Assessment for Residents with Dementia in Assisted Living Settings,” in the Journal of the American Medical Directors Association.
Lori Rubeling, Professor of Art and Graphic Design and Exhibitions Director, received a Creativity Grant from the Maryland State Arts Council (MSAC).
Darlene Brothers-Gray, Adjunct Professor of Forensic Science, published her article “Virtual Reality in Higher Education” in The Journal of Forensic Science Education.
