On April 21, 2023, seven interns from Stevenson University were accompanied by Danielle Newill (Coordinator, Education Placements & Partnerships) and Dr. Jesse Schneiderman (Assistant Professor of Education) as they attended the Teachers of Promise Institute held at Martin’s West in Baltimore.

Graduate student Guiliana Datnoff and seniors Jake Barrett, Wiktoria Bilich, Dani Jones, Jordan Pinkney, Emily Beatty, and Kiana Johnson were recognized by the Maryland State Department of Education and named as 2023 Maryland Teachers of Promise.

MSDE noted, “The program matches promising graduating seniors from Maryland colleges and universities with award-winning veteran teacher-mentors. Mentors provide coaching, support, and share their experiences in building strong classroom communities.” Mentors and protégés work together online during the transition period from the spring and summer until the new teachers are placed in their schools.

The Institute consisted of several sessions led by esteemed educators, in addition to panels of first year teachers and veteran teachers. Berol Dewdney, 2023 Maryland Teacher of the Year, inspired participants through her thoughtful messages that “life is about growing your brain and leading with your heart… you can decide what legacy you want to leave… there is no limit to what our students deserve.

This is truly a notable commendation! Congratulations to our 2023 Maryland Teachers of Promise!
