*Stevenson University will accept a maximum of 70 credits from 2-year institutions. No more than 90 credits can be applied to the degree requirements from a combination of 2-year institutions, 4-year institutions and non-direct classroom instruction (including CLEP, AP, and other nationally recognized standardized examination scores). The courses and credits completed with a grade of “C” or better at other regionally accredited institutions are generally transferable to Stevenson. Some grades of “C-“, “D+”, or “D” may be acceptable for general education requirements that are not major requirements.

How to Apply
We are excited that you are ready to learn more about the SU application process! Admission to Stevenson is reserved for students who are prepared to meet the rigors of college-level work and whose personal characteristics make them a good fit for our community. The Admissions Committee reads each application and releases decisions on a rolling basis, meaning that applications are accepted and decisions are mailed throughout the year. You can expect to have a decision from us approximately 1-2 weeks after you have submitted your application and all other required information.

In selecting students, we consider academic preparation, intellectual promise, and personal character. We are particularly impressed by students who can express how Stevenson’s unique career-oriented programs and exceptional experiences will help them realize the future they imagine for themselves and for the world.
Please note that you are not considered a transfer student unless you have graduated from high school or obtained a GED and have attended another college or university. High school students who have taken college credits before receiving a high school diploma are considered freshman students.

The Admissions Committee at Stevenson University considers all submitted information when reviewing applications. Complete applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.

Visual Arts & Design Portfolios
The School of Design encourages students planning to major in Fashion Design, Film & Moving Image, and Graphic Design to submit a portfolio of work to enhance their application and to be considered for talent-based scholarships. Portfolio submissions are used for scholarship consideration and will not negatively impact a student’s acceptance to Stevenson University or the art and design programs within. Please see the School of Design’s portfolio page for tips, guidelines, and FAQs on putting together an art and design portfolio.
Admissions Decisions
Applicants who have earned an Associate’s degree with a cumulative GPA of 2.50 or higher (lower GPA’s may be considered on a case by case basis) will be given guaranteed admission. Acceptance to the university does not guarantee acceptance into a specific degree program, such as Nursing, Medical Laboratory Science, or Biomedical Engineering. Please refer to Academic Programs for more information about deadlines for submission of all application materials. Admissions decision letters are mailed on a rolling basis.

Scholarships & Financial Aid
Merit-Based Scholarships
Transfer students who have demonstrated significant academic achievement may be awarded the Stevenson University Transfer Scholarship. This merit-based award may reach $21,300 annually for a maximum of four consecutive years. All applicants are automatically reviewed.
Merit-based awards range from $12,000 – $21,300.
GPA and credits considered: Earned by February 1 for fall start and October 1 for spring start. Scholarships are based on full-time, continuous enrollment. Stevenson University Online students are not eligible to receive scholarships.

Transfer Honors
Stevenson University welcomes transfer students to join its Honors Program, which provides academically talented students the opportunity to develop a strong network of mutually outstanding and motivated peers and work closely with talented and engaged faculty.
How Do My Credits Transfer?
Stevenson is committed to helping transfer students minimize credit loss and complete their degree at Stevenson in as little time as possible. The Registrar’s Office facilitates the evaluation of credit for students who have earned college credit from another institution or successfully completed Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB), or College-Level Examination Program (CLEP).
Transfer students must submit official transcripts of all previous college records to Stevenson.
Admitted students who have earned college credit in the United States will be emailed their official transfer credit evaluation within 2-3 weeks of being admitted to Stevenson. Please note that a student’s evaluation is preliminary and ongoing; only courses with a final grade will be evaluated. Students should submit additional official transcripts as coursework is completed before their registration.
Transfer Your Credits Seamlessly
- Students who enter Stevenson with an A.A., A.S., or A.A.T. degree from an accredited community college in the United States, which also meets the minimum State of Maryland requirements, will have met all of Stevenson’s general education (Stevenson Educational Experience) requirements. Please note a second composition course is required if the student doesn’t have an equivalent course as part of the associate’s degree. General education block transfer is of great value because it allows you to focus on coursework in your major once you get to Stevenson, provides you with more flexibility in course scheduling, and helps ensure timely completion of your bachelor’s degree. Please contact the Admissions Office to discuss how this block transfer option could benefit you. Stevenson also participates in the Articulation System for Maryland Colleges and Universities (ARTSYS), which allows students in Maryland community colleges to determine how individual courses transfer to Stevenson and to look at recommended transfer plans. Community college students should also work with their transfer counselors to help select classes that will optimize credit transfer. If a student is completing a degree not listed above, they can contact the Transfer Admissions office to learn how credits are transfered after they have completed their application and submitted official transcripts from all colleges or universities attended.
- Stevenson maintains numerous articulation agreements with local community colleges to maximize the number of transfer credits that will be accepted, and the Registrar’s Office uses these agreements to evaluate transcripts.
- Stevenson University will accept up to 70 credits from 2-year institutions.
- Up to 90 credits can be applied to degree requirements from a combination of 2-year institutions, 4-year institutions, and non-direct classroom instruction (including CLEP, AP, and other nationally recognized standardized examination scores).
- Program courses and credits completed with a grade of “C” or better and general education credits completed with a grade of “D” or better at regionally-accredited institutions are transferable to Stevenson, although developmental/remedial, personal development, and orientation courses do not transfer.
- Students must earn a minimum of 120 credits for a bachelor’s degree; last 30 of these credits must be completed at Stevenson.
- Regardless of the number of transfer credits accepted, students must complete the academic program requirements as shown in the Catalog.
NOTE: The transferability of credits from an institution that is not accredited by a regional accreditation agency may be considered if the student provides documentation that demonstrates equivalency regarding course information, and learning outcomes.
