The University provides eligible employees with the opportunity to accrue paid vacation for their service. The vacation period is to provide eligible employees with periods of rest and relaxation in recognition of service performed.
Accrual
Vacation leave is accrued only when an eligible employee is in an active status. Vacation leave is not accrued during an unpaid leave of absence. A year is defined as the first pay period of the fiscal year and ending last pay period of the fiscal year. A maximum of 80 hours of vacation leave may be rolled from one year to the next.

Employment Classification | Years of Service | Maximum Days |
Executives | Immediate Upon Employment | 22 days |
Administrators | Immediate Upon Employment | 20 days |

Part-Time Regular Staff earn vacation leave on a prorated basis (for example, an employee budgeted at .75 of full time with 5 years of service earns 20 eight-hour days multiplied by .75). Faculty, part-time on-call (scheduled hours on an as needed basis) and student employees do not accrue vacation leave.
Scheduling
Use of vacation leave must be approved in advance by the staff member’s immediate supervisor and must be taken at times that will not interfere with the ongoing work of the University.
If necessary, with the approval of the staff member’s supervisor, vacation leave may be advanced up to the maximum that will accrue for the fiscal year. However, any vacation leave taken, but not earned, at the time of termination of service with the University shall be deducted from the last paycheck.
Payout
Vacation leave that was accrued but not taken during the last year of employment will be added to the employee’s final pay upon leaving the institution. If an employee leaves the University within 30 calendar days after a pay increase, the vacation payout will be at the rate prior to the pay increase.
