The purpose of this policy is to ensure regular feedback, goal setting, and professional growth for staff of the University.
Supervisors are responsible for measuring and evaluating each staff member’s total performance and accomplishments at least once each year. Management maintains the option of interim reviews. Staff are responsible for completion of their annual self-evaluation and the recommendation of their own goals for the upcoming year; however, the goals of the employee must ultimately be approved by the supervisor.
The appraisal will be based on performance of job responsibilities shown in the job description and the achievement of individual goals. Periodic discussions concerning each staff member’s performance and progress toward achievement of goals should take place throughout the year.
Upon completion of the performance appraisal, both the staff member and the supervisor must review and sign the document. The completed form must be returned to Human Resources for inclusion in the staff member’s personnel file.
On an annual basis the Office of Human Resources will publish the requirements and deadlines for each step of the appraisal process.
Supervisors or employees who fail to complete their required role in the staff performance appraisal process may be subject to counseling or disciplinary measures.
