The Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993 (“FMLA”) gives eligible employees the right to take unpaid, job-protected leave for specified family and/or medical reasons, for a period of up to 12 work weeks in a 12-month period. Stevenson University follows the requirements of the Family Medical Leave Act. The United States Department of Labor provides extensive information at https://www.dol.gov/agencies/whd/fmla.
Stevenson University uses a rolling 12-month look-back period to determine eligibility for FMLA leave and the amount of FMLA leave remaining of their federally-allowed allotment. The employee must have worked at least 1,250 hours in the 12-month period before the FMLA leave is to begin and have worked for the University a total of 12 months or more to qualify for FMLA leave. The University also requires the employee to use any available paid Vacation, Sick, or Personal leave concurrently with FMLA leave before using Leave Without Pay.
Employees seeking additional information or FML forms should contact hr@stevenson.edu.
