We are a practical, hands-on program, where students work with a great variety of cameras, sound gear, supporting rigs, lighting, and editing platforms from the get-go. However, we also have a few classes where students study the history and aesthetics of film and the moving image. This past week, in one such course—FMI231 (Film & Moving Image History)—students in the honors section watched a 3D movie from 1953 as an example of the changes Hollywood confronted in that decade. Our selection was Raoul Walsh’s Gun Fury, a Western starring Rock Hudson and Donna Reed.
