It’s Oscar time! For our 22nd episode (and 4th of the 2023-2024 academic year), we welcome first-year FMI students Joy Barnett and Quinn Bonnan to review one of the Oscar-nominated films in the Best International Features category, Io Capitano, as well as this year’s Oscar-nominated live-action short films. Io Capitano, from director Matteo Garrone, follows the odyssey of two Senegalese teenagers, Seydou and Moussa, as they overcome obstacles on a dangerous journey to Europe. The film begins its national release on Friday, February 23, the day this episode drops. The five short films—The After, InvincibleKnight of FortuneRed, White and Blue, and The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar—began their national roll out, via ShortsTV, on February 16. As always, FMI Department Chair Chris Reed hosts.
