For our nineteenth episode (and first of the 2023-2024 academic year), we welcome Senior student Michelle David (a Graphic Design major and FMI minor) and Junior Tina Spurgeon (an FMI major) to discuss the films Past Lives and My Love Affair with Marriage. The former—the debut feature of writer/director Celine Song—came out over the summer after a premiere at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival. Starring the moving trio of Greta Lee, Teo Yoo, and John Magaro, it tells a poignant story of immigration, assimilation, love, and regret. The other film begins its theatrical rollout on October 6 (the day this episode drops), and is an animated feminist romp through historic events in Eastern Europe from writer/director Signe Baumane. As always, FMI Department Chair Chris Reed hosts.
