Every year, Stevenson University has a visiting writer, meant to both give presentations/share their work and interact with class. This year, SU’s visiting writer is Sarah Pinsker.

Sarah Pinsker’s writing has focused on how the world around us changes in response to technology, and how the people involved react to said change. Whether they embrace it, or they reject it. Her works include stories and novels such as: 

  • “A Song for a New Day;” In the wake of a lethal pandemic and series of terror attacks, public gatherings are outlawed and all contact is done through virtual reality. Yet a single musician, Luce Cannon refuses to give up on her dreams, and continues to hold concerts with a determined following. Now, however, she’s on a crash course with a former delivery girl turned seeker of amazing musicians to bring into the virtual world. She is also a musician and has released three albums thus far; two on her own (Charmed and Wingspan), and one with her band The Stalking Horses (This is Your Signal). For her works, she has been granted multiple awards – the 2020 Nebula Award for her novel “A Song for a New Day,” and the Phillip K Dick Award for her collection “Sooner or Later Everything Falls Into the Sea.”

Moreover, her short stories have been finalists for several different awards, such as the Locus Award and World Fantasy Award. If you’re a sci-fi/fantasy fan, a creative writer, or even both, see if you can attend the public reading in the Claire Moore room at 4 pm, April 4th.
