At the Faculty Recognition Celebration on May 22, Education faculty were recognized for their Scholarly and Creative Accomplishments during the 2024-25 academic year.
Dr. Beth Kobett, Professor and Dean of the School of Education, Dr. David Nicholson, Professor and Chair of Undergraduate Education, Valerie Valdez, Assistant Professor, and Janel Frazier, Adjunct Professor, presented Computational Thinking (CT) in Education at the Summer Computer Science (CS) Education Intensive Workshops, sponsored by the Maryland Center for Computing Education (MCCE), held at Hood College in Frederick, MD, on June 24, 2024.
Dr. Kobett presented Starting Strong: Strengths-based Teaching and Learning in Mathematics at the Math Coalition Math Camp in Delaware on June 6, 2024; Formative Assessment and Feedback: Guiding, Informing, and Impacting Teaching and Learning at the Baltimore County Secondary Math Professional Learning on July 8, 2024; and Strengths-Based Feedback: Maximizing Formative Assessment and Mathematical Understandings at the Maryland Council of Teachers of Mathematics (MCTM) in Howard County, MD, on September 26.
Dr. Jesse Schneiderman published State of Faculty Engagement in Faculty Development in the Journal of Faculty Development, and Diffusing Hot Moments in the Classroom in the UVA Teaching Hub.
Dr. Valerie Valdez and Dr. Jesse Schneiderman presented Implementing a Justice-Centered, Trauma-Informed Pedagogy to Help Multilingual Learners Thrive at the Maryland State Education Association (MSEA) Conference in Ocean City, MD, on October 10, 2024.
Dr. Robert Pelton, Professor of Education, presented Integrating Social and Emotional Learning for Effective Classroom Management: A Practical Guide for Educators at the International Conference on Education, Research and Innovation, in Sevilla, Spain, in Fall 2024.
