In late July, while most faculty were making their preparations for classes to begin, Dr. Sydella Blatch had a different type of preparing to do; she was preparing for 10 to 12 hour days at a week-long leadership conference in DC.

The Society for Advancement of Chicanos/Hispanics and Native Americans in Science (SACNAS) held their annual Summer Leadership Institute (SLI) during the last week of July. Faculty are selected to attend the annual leadership conference which features team building, ice breakers, lectures, professional networking, presentations, and even a talent show, where Dr. Blatch served as the emcee. She said, “While at the conference, I learned new skills and approaches to how we can better serve our diverse student population at SU. It really sparks thinking for broader systematic ways to help all students succeed.” We are so glad to have faculty at Stevenson who are dedicated to service, learning, and success!
