Applied Mathematics News

Welcome to the new applied students who are joining us this fall! All new freshmen came to campus for a day in June to participate in activities to meet other incoming students, to hear about the upcoming school year, to meet faculty in the department, and to register for classes. Of course, we are the #1 department on campus!

Congratulations to Dr. Benjamin Wilson, Assistant Professor of Mathematics, who was selected to participate in Project NExT. Project NExT (New Experiences in Teaching) is a professional development program, through the Mathematical Association of America, for new math faculty. It addresses all aspects of an academic career: improving the teaching and learning of mathematics, engaging in research and scholarship, finding exciting and interesting service opportunities, and participating in professional activities. Congratulations to Dr. Wilson on receiving this honor!

The Department of Mathematics and Physics, along with the rest of the School of the Sciences, has now moved to our new building on the Owings Mills North Campus! Our new address is: 11200 Ted Herget Way, Owings Mills, MD 21117.

We’re settling in and learning our way around. Looking forward to using our many new spaces this fall- especially our Math Collaboratory and our Math Room! Feel free to stop by for a visit- let us know you’re coming and we’ll be glad to give you a tour!

Congratulations to Applied Math Senior Reid Foxwell for winning the Department’s 2016 Service Award. Reid was recognized for helping out at Open House and Scholars’ Day recruiting events and attending events where his help was needed. Congratulations Reid!

Sarah Modzelewski was recognized at the May Celebration for obtaining the highest GPA of all graduating applied math seniors. Sarah received an award and a gift to celebrate her accomplishments. Congratulations Sarah!
