Should we be giving students fewer choices on the path to graduation?  A recent article in the Chronicle of Higher Education  discusses how guided pathways can help students make better choices and avoid costly mistakes that can delay time to graduation.  Pathways, the article explains, are not about taking away choice but making sure that students are taking the right course at the right time.  Early data shows improved retention and performance from those students who have participated in the pathways initiative at several community colleges.
