Stevenson to Add Men’s and Women’s Swimming Beginning October 2014

Stevenson University has announced it will add men’s and women’s swimming to its roster of 23 NCAA Division III varsity sports. The team is expected to begin competition in October 2014.

The teams will compete against current Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) members Albright, Arcadia, Fairleigh Dickinson-Florham, Hood, King’s (Pa.), Lebanon Valley, Lycoming, Messiah, Misericordia, and Widener.

“Stevenson University is in a growth mode and we recognize the value of athletics in students’ educations,” said Brett Adams, Director of Athletics. “Swimming with be our 24th and 25th NCAA Division III varsity sports and will boast some of the strongest academic students with a wide variety of interests in different majors.”

Currently, the University is looking at different local venues that will serve as the team’s home venue for practices and meets, while also searching for the program’s first coach who will oversee both teams.

“Over time, we hope to challenge the conference and hopefully have student athletes representing the University at the national level,” Adams said. “We are very excited to offer this sport to our students and look forward to the competition.”

Stevenson University, known for its distinctive career focus, is the third-largest independent university in Maryland with more than 4,400 students pursuing bachelor’s, master’s, and adult accelerated degrees at locations in Stevenson and Owings Mills.
