Stevenson University‘s Fashion Merchandising program is teaming up with Boscov’s in Westminster to prepare, coordinate, and execute the department store’s “Spring Trends Fashion Show,” set for Saturday, February 22, from 4-5 p.m. at the TownMall of Westminster, 400 N. Center Street, Westminster, MD 21157. The event, located in Boscov’s second floor auditorium, is free and the public is invited to attend.

“We are very happy that Boscov’s provided Stevenson University with such a great real-world and hands-on opportunity,” said Kelly Welker, Associate Professor of Fashion Merchandising. “Fashion shows are exciting events as well as wonderful teaching tools. Students improve their fashion eye, teamwork skills, and communication aptitude, all of which are highly valued by businesses in the fashion merchandising industry.”

Stevenson’s Fashion Merchandising students will be divided into groups and tasked with distinct roles for the show. Their responsibilities include writing copy for and voicing the fashion trends, controlling the timing and order of the show, and communicating with the volunteer models.

“Boscov’s continues to support education through internships and partnerships in the community,” said Grace Kalma, Boscov’s Regional Manager of Public Relations/Events. “As a strong leader, we are focused on working with students who are working to better themselves through education, real world, and hands-on experience. We are delighted to partner with Stevenson University in this unique opportunity to showcase student’s abilities in teamwork, communication, and fashion skills.”

Housed within the University’s Brown School of Business and Leadership, Stevenson’s Bachelor of Science in Fashion Merchandising is the first upper-level program of its kind in Maryland that prepares students for careers in marketing and merchandising for the apparel and retail industries.
