Neurologist Expert Geoffrey Ling to Speak at Stevenson University’s Fifth Annual Dell Lecture

Stevenson University’s Beverly K. Fine School of the Sciences will host Dr. Geoffrey Ling, Founder and COO of On Demand Pharmaceuticals, Inc., for the School’s fifth annual Dell Lecture, Wednesday, March 1, 4:30-6:00 p.m. in the Rockland Banquet Room on the University’s Owings Mills Campus, 100 Campus Circle, Owings Mills, MD 21117. The event is free and the public is invited to attend.
Ling is also an attending physician in Neuro Critical Care Unit at Johns Hopkins Hospital while simultaneously teaching neurology at Johns Hopkins University and the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences
Ling’s lecture is titled, “Meeting Aspirational Goals for Human Health”. Ling has led efforts resulting in breakthrough products including the DEKA arm, the world’s most sophisticated arm and hand robot prosthesis, which received full FDA approval in 2014. Additionally, Ling led a research program that enables fully paralyzed humans to control prosthetic robotics arms and hands with their brains to perform everyday functions such as feeding and grooming.
The Dell Lecture is named in honor of Stevenson Trustee Samuel M. Dell III and his late wife Geraldine Dell, who established the Dell Scholarship for Character and Excellence in the Sciences, which is awarded to outstanding Stevenson rising seniors studying biology, chemistry, and mathematics.
The scholarship is presented annually to a student who possesses strong ethical grounding and work ethic that result in both academic and personal success. Additional selection criteria include being a team contributor; demonstrating the ability to apply theoretical concepts to solve practical problems in the sciences; achieving academic excellence; an appreciation for cultural diversity; and a commitment to personal growth and development.
