Four Education majors presented at the 2026 Spring Scholars Symposium held on May 14 in Rockland.
Emmalynn Kohl ’27, Elementary Education and Honors and Leadership Scholar, presented “Exploring Cultural Differences in Education.” Emmalynn spent a week in the Dominican Republic during spring break, where she served in a preschool. She then spent two days in a preschool in the USA and compared the similarities and differences between the schools, both educationally and culturally. The Faculty Mentor for the project was Dr. Beth Kobett, Dean of the School of Education.

Sarah Bisson ’27 and Bella Terra ’27, Elementary Education and Honors Scholars, presented “Inclusive Number Sense Routine.” This interactive session explored how to implement number sense routines in classrooms. One of the number sense activities was incorporated into the presentation with all attendees participating. The Faculty Mentor for the project was Dr. Beth Kobett, Dean of the School of Education.

Emily Smalt ‘28, Early Childhood Education and Service Scholar, presented a poster, “A World of Inclusion: Best Buddies.” For their Community Service and History class, students selected a partner organization. Emily serves as the current Vice President of Best Buddies, therefore, she studied the impact the Best Buddies organization has on the community and how state budget cuts affect organizations like Best Buddies. The Faculty Mentor was Billy Wolfgang, Lecturer in English.
