Stevenson Mock Trial Hosts First Annual Mustang Mayhem Invitational
Stevenson University’s Mock Trial program recently hosted its first annual Mustang Mayhem Invitational. The tournament was organized and led by faculty members Norman Greenwell and Ahad Khan and Legal Studies APA Melanie Snyder. Two of Stevenson Mock Trial’s teams competed against 18 teams from four states and the District of Columbia.
“We have hosted tournaments in years prior, but all were co-hosted with UMBC Mock Trial,” said Greenwell, Assistant Professor of Law. “We’ve always wanted to host a tournament but we never really got the idea off the ground. There were a lot of moving parts to coordinate! Ahad Khan, another one of our coaches, was really excited about the idea of hosting a tournament, so we decided to do it this year.”
Mock trial teams from Juniata College, George Washington University, Seton Hall University, Howard University, Dickinson College, University of Delaware, University of Baltimore, Johns Hopkins University, and Alvernia University traveled to compete at Stevenson.
The event provided excellent experience for Stevenson’s Mock Trial team members to hone their courtroom skills. And, three first-year students received awards: Lilly St. Clair and Christina Franco were both named as Outstanding Witnesses, and Lydia Pesi was named as an Outstanding Attorney.
“This tournament was a wonderful experience for our students to compete in and for us to host,” Greenwell said. “Our students learned how to best present and frame their advocacy, while also developing great relationships with Stevenson alumni and their peers from other schools. More than 50 alumni came back to campus to judge, so the event also served as a wonderful reunion for so many former Legal Studies Mustangs.”
Stevenson University’s Award-Winning Mock Trial Program
Through the award-winning Stevenson University Mock Trial program, students in the Legal Studies and Pre-Law advising programs don’t just study the law—they gain hands-on experience in its practice. Our Mock Trial teams master the art of evidence presentation, sharpen their trial skills, and learn to craft winning courtroom strategies. Along the way, they build powerful connections with fellow students, practicing attorneys, and sitting judges. Follow Stevenson’s Mock Trial teams on Instagram for the latest updates.
