This January, Dr. Keith Johnson’s Environmental Field Studies course traveled to Hawaii to learn about the flora, fauna, climate, and culture of Hawaii.

In their first few days on Oahu, they toured Diamond Head, learned about the fishing industry, and saw some of the diverse plant species that are unique to Hawaii at the Dole Plantation.

The hike to Manoa Falls took the class through a tropical rainforest; a trip to the Sea Life Park introduced the students to biodiversity of Hawaii and the effects of humans on the ocean environment. During their visit to Hanauma Bay, the students learned about conservation efforts there and helped to clear marine debris from the bay. Check back for their trip to the Big Island….
