Highlights

Bryan Laing is a Lecturer and Internship Director at Stevenson University’s Brown School of Business and Leadership. He brings experience in entrepreneurship, workforce development, strategic partnerships, higher education, and small-business consulting to his work with students, employers, and community partners.

His professional experience also includes strategic-partnership and regional-workforce roles at Western Governors University, where he has worked with industry associations, employers, workforce development boards, community colleges, apprenticeship partners, and public officials to develop pathways for nontraditional learners and strengthen connections between workforce training and degree completion.

Prior to his current role, Mr. Laing previously taught entrepreneurship as an adjunct faculty member at Stevenson University. He has also served as an instructor, consultant, and program advisor at Frederick Community College and Howard Community College. His academic and workforce-development experience includes designing a grant-funded Food Entrepreneur training program, developing workforce-aligned instructional materials, supporting academic program planning, and creating opportunities that connect employer needs, workforce training, and academic pathways.

As Training Director and Business Consultant for the Maryland Small Business Development Center at Carroll Community College, Mr. Laing advised entrepreneurs and small-business owners on marketing, finance, operations, management, and growth strategy. He developed and launched the Pathways to Entrepreneurship pilot program into a Continuing Education course, enrolling 44 students and supporting 15 participants in completing business plans. Program participants included a business owner who secured a $130,000 loan and a first-place winner in the StartUp Maryland Business Pitch Competition.

Mr. Laing also developed customized workforce-training programs and secured contracts with the Maryland Department of Human Services and Frederick County Economic Development. Through his consulting work, he supported entrepreneurs and small-business owners in launching new ventures, pursuing capital funding, creating jobs, and increasing sales through strategic consulting, sales training, and marketing guidance.

Earlier in his career, he was the third-generation owner and operator of his family’s restaurant business. He also held hospitality roles in bartending, cruise-ship operations, and management, building practical expertise in business operations, team development, customer service, and workforce training.
