As part of its Visiting Writer series, Stevenson University will host fiction writer Carmen Maria Machado on Thursday, Sept. 29, for a reception and public reading in the Studio Theatre on the Greenspring Campus, 1525 Greenspring Valley Road, Stevenson, MD 21153. Machado’s reading will take place from 6-7 p.m. and will be preceded by a reception held at 5:30 p.m. in the Inscape Theatre Lobby. This event is free and open to the public.

Machado’s work has appeared in literary venues such as Granta and The American Reader. Her book Her Body and Other Parties will be published by Graywolf Press in 2017.

Machado’s stories explore in fresh ways issues of identity, gender, and history. They are often short and sweet, brief but arresting forays that can surprise, delight, and provoke.
