Stevenson University’s Fashion Design program is among the top 15 on the East Coast according to Fashion-Schools.org, which released its third annual region-based list of the Top 20 fashion design universities and colleges.

The East Coast region comprises Virginia, Rhode Island, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New York, Delaware, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine. Stevenson is the only Maryland university to earn a spot in the rankings, an accomplishment that carries an even greater significance when factoring in that the Fashion Design program was introduced in 2011, just four years ago.

“It is a considerable honor that our program was ranked among the top twenty on the East Coast in such a short amount of time,” said Sally DiMarco, Program Coordinator and Associate Professor of Fashion Design. “Our program’s technical design focus coupled with the extracurricular activities that drive our instructional curriculum have helped establish Stevenson as a leader in Fashion Design. We will continue to strengthen and grow our program in the years to come.”

The website based its rankings on a variety of criteria including academic reputation, admission selectivity, geographic location, and depth and breadth of the program and its faculty. In its review of Stevenson, the site highlighted the program’s consistent involvement in both local fashion exhibitions as well as its annual trip to New York for Fashion Week. The website also emphasized the abundance of fashion internship opportunities in the area.

“We consider nearly 150 programs across the U.S. and spend months compiling information about the programs and iterating on our evaluation and ranking process,” said Brad Prescott, Founder of Fashion-Schools.org. “In the end, our goal with the rankings is to provide students and their parents with an ideal starting point to identify fashion programs—large and small—that are the best fit for them. Our rankings provide prospective fashion students with insight into quality programs—like Stevenson—of which they may not otherwise be aware.”

Stevenson University, known for its distinctive career focus, is the third-largest independent university in Maryland with more than 4,400 students pursuing bachelor’s, master’s, and adult bachelor’s programs at locations in Stevenson and Owings Mills.
