Nursing Student Receives Scholarship for International Study

Desiree Miller, a sophomore nursing student, has been chosen as the most recent recipient of the Judith Waranch Scholarship for International Study. In spring 2020 Desiree will participate in the SU in Spain (ISA) program to Valencia for the semester. While abroad she will take courses in health sciences at the Universidad Católica de Valencia toward her nursing requirements as well as humanities courses that fulfill general education requirements.
In her application Desiree wrote, “While diversity is a core value for Stevenson, it is equally important in the healthcare field. As a nursing major, I will work towards my goal of becoming culturally aware and diverse in thought so I can provide the best care to my patients. Knowing how to interact with individuals from different backgrounds can prove to be useful in the medical field.”
The Judith Waranch Scholarship for International Study was established in 2016 by Ms.Waranch to encourage Stevenson students to participate in a study abroad program. The Scholarship is open to female students with financial need. Ms. Waranch, a member of the Stevenson University Board of Trustees, has more than 35 years of experience as a senior executive and business lawyer. She has traveled extensively and understands the value of experiencing different cultures. It is Ms. Waranch’s desire to encourage young women to expand their experiences and to develop a world perspective. She values classroom instruction combined with experiential education as a foundation to allow individuals to lead full, productive and successful lives, which is at the core of Stevenson’s mission.
