Master’s Programs – Frequently Asked Questions
What does it take to graduate with a Master’s degree?
Students will need 30 – 36 credits, depending on the program, to graduate. Most classes are 3 credits and offered online in an 8-week format. Refer to the catalog for the course requirements of each program.
How many courses should a student take a semester?
Students must consider that a semester is 16-weeks long, with two 8-week sessions. Depending on how difficult the class is, and the students’ time management skills, independent work time may vary. A Student Success Coach is assigned to every student to provide guidance and support in choosing classes every session.
How do I apply for Financial Aid?
Click here to learn more about Financial Aid options for undergraduate students. View Financial Aid FAQ. Contact Financial Aid at 443-334-3200 or email financial-aid@stevenson.edu.
Stevenson’s school code is 002107
How do I get registered for my classes?
After acceptance into their program, students will schedule a registration appointment with their Student Success Coach to discuss next steps and register for their classes.
How do I get set-up with my user ID and password?
Once the student registers, the IT department will send an email within 24 – 48 hours with information about setting up their user ID and password.
What platform do we use?
Blackboard. Students will receive a tutorial through SUO 100. We also use Office 365 Outlook, WebXpress, and the SU Now Portal.
Are there any tuition discounts?
SUO gives a discount to students that have an associates degree from a partner community college. Just taking courses from a partner community college will not make them eligible for the discount. Additionally, tuition discounts are offered to employees at any of the healthcare organizations, non-profits, government agencies, and corporations that partner with SUO. Visit our partnership page to see if your employer is an SUO partner.
Where can a student get their books?
Students can order their books from the Campus Store. They need to make sure they have the correct ISBN and edition.
Can a student drop a course?
Students can drop a course from the time they are registered through the first week of classes, without being responsible for the cost. Be aware that if a student drops a course, their status may change, and financial aid could be affected. Please contact the Financial Aid Office before making a change to your schedule at 443-334-3200 or email financial-aid@stevenson.edu.
As an SUO student, do I have access to the traditional services?
Students have access to most of the traditional services such as the Wellness Center, Counseling Center, Career Services, fitness centers and facilities, campus events, sporting events, and more.
Do students need to communicate with their Student Success Coach prior to registering for classes?
New students will register for their first classes with their Student Success Coach. All returning students are able to register themselves, but we always suggest consulting your Student Success Coach.
When is the last day to withdraw from a course?
The last day to withdraw from a course is five (5) weeks after the semester has started. This is also the last day that a student can receive a ‘W’ on their transcript. The ‘W’ does not impact a student’s GPA; however, by this date the student is fully responsible to pay for the full course without a refund.
When is tuition due?
Students must pay their tuition by the first Friday of the first week of classes. Students can contact the Student Accounts Office at 443-334-3500 or studentaccounts@stevenson.edu to set up payment plans.
