Happy Nurses Week from Stevenson University Online!

RN to BS and Master of Science in Nursing graduate Julie Porter currently works at GBMC as a Care Manager. Previously, Julie had served in the General Medicine and Postpartum units at GBMC before making the move to a Care Management role.

As a Care Manager, Julie oversees care management and coordination of clinical activities for high risk patients of the primary care provider and promotes population management through effective education, self-management support, goal setting, and timely health care delivery. Julie explains, “In my current role, I am able to reach a large population of people in the community. Witnessing improvements in their health and quality of life over time is rewarding.”

During her time at Stevenson, Julie built a foundation of knowledge and experience that helped advance her career. Julie says, “With these concepts, I learned to apply various approaches and processes for problem identification and solution development.” Additionally, she found the faculty and staff were supportive in incorporating technology and alternative learning methods in order to maintain a work life balance while completing the program. Julie notes, “They served as a guide to navigate through each course, and as a resource to support my understanding of nursing concepts, and promote mastery of the material. Their feedback was constructive and facilitated my success.”
