Stevenson University Online’s Forensic Studies student Frank DiVincenzo was recently awarded the 2016 Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) scholarship. ACFE is the world’s largest anti-fraud organization and premier provider of anti-fraud training and education. The partnership between the Maryland Chapter of ACFE and Stevenson University has evolved over the years and continues to pursue avenues to progress education in forensics. During ACFE of Maryland Chapter’s meeting last month, President Stephen J. Lesniewski, Jr., CFE, presented Frank with the scholarship. We recently had the opportunity to speak with Frank about his experiences in the Forensic Studies program at Stevenson.

During my time at Stevenson, what surprised me the most was the dedication and devotion of the faculty. Every professor was willing to go above and beyond to ensure that students were successful. At larger institutions, students can become just a number and are often overlooked, but Stevenson is the complete opposite. I was able to develop learning relationships with my professors in each class. I never felt intimidated to approach a professor for help or guidance. This is ultimately a testament to each professor’s willingness to help each student grow to their full learning capacity.
Earning my Forensic Studies master’s is undoubtedly enhancing my qualifications and making me more marketable. Additionally, the program prepared me for real-world situations. Mock Trial was one of the best experiences. I was able to complete a mock investigation and testify to my findings. In the field, it’s common that professionals do not have the opportunity to testify until they are well into their careers. I would not have been able to find such a realistic experience anywhere else.
Throughout my time at Stevenson, the most valuable lesson I learned was the importance of hard work and dedication. Although I received guidance along the way, I was never just given anything. I had to earn what I achieved. It can be stressful during the process, but in the end, it is all worth it knowing I achieved it on my own.
I am honored and humbled to have been the recipient of the ACFE Scholarship. It is truly an honor to know that such a prestigious organization was impressed by my achievements and qualifications. I want to thank the Maryland Chapter of ACFE for their generosity in allowing me to pursue my dream. Earning my master’s degree in Forensic Studies enables me to pursue my interest in public service and dedication to putting others before myself. It is truly something special.
