  • Achieving Excellence

The University lauds superior performance while recognizing the importance of persistence toward goals. There are numerous prestigious honors that faculty and staff can strive to achieve, including the Innovative Teaching with Technology Award, the Rose Dawson Excellence in Teaching Award, and the Stevenson Way Awards.

The Rose Dawson Excellence in Teaching Award

The Rose Dawson Excellence in Teaching Award is presented annually to recognize innovative and energetic faculty who exemplify the art of teaching as mentors and scholars. Within the last several years, the award has been presented to both a full-time and an adjunct faculty member. The award is supported by an endowment provided to honor the exceptional contribution of Dr. Rose Dawson, who served with distinction as Dean of Villa Julie College from 1967 until 1999.

Since 2004, the full-time recipient of the Excellence in Teaching recognition has been known as the Dawson Professor of the Year. The Dawson Professor receives an honorarium and is invited to address graduates at winter commencement. The adjunct recipient also receives an honorarium, and both faculty members are announced at the annual Faculty Recognition dinner.

The Innovative Teaching with Technology Award

Stevenson University has always put great emphasis on the growth and advancement of our students. With the rapid growth of technology, sometimes it is hard to keep up with the latest advancements. The Innovative Teaching with Technology Awards will recognize those faculty members who encourage students to keep up the latest technology by using technology efficiently—in advanced or improved ways—in the classroom. Full-time and part-time faculty, including department heads, are eligible to receive this award.

    Stevenson Way Awards

Four special awards, the Stevenson Way Awards, are themed around the four main values of the institution: Achieving Excellence, Building Community, Fostering Learning, and Instilling Integrity.

    Achieving Excellence Award
The Achieving Excellence Award highlights efforts made to positively impact the University by internalizing its core values and demonstrating a willingness to contribute that goes beyond the normal scope of one’s role. In reinforcing the Stevenson value of excellence, the Achieving Excellence Award highlights the importance of superior achievement at the University.

    Building Community Award
The Building Community Award recognizes that collaboration is fundamental to an institution’s long-term success. Adherence to the principles that promote a sense of community is critical for maintaining an atmosphere of success and continued growth at the University.

    Fostering Learning Award
The Fostering Learning Award recognizes strides made to positively impact the University by endorsing the core value of learning. To reinforce this value, this award highlights the importance of proactively nurturing an environment where both employee and student growth is present.

    Instilling Integrity Award
The Instilling Integrity Award recognizes that ethical behavior is fundamental to an institution’s reputation, trustworthiness, and long-term performance. Adherence to the principles of integrity always overrides short-term gain, and discussions of what is right is openly encouraged at all levels.

  • Fostering Learning

    Fostering Learning

Stevenson University encourages every employee—faculty, staff, and administrators—to take advantage of the numerous opportunities for continuous learning offered within and outside of the University community. The University promotes the pursuit of theoretical and practical knowledge while encouraging a life well-lived—a lifelong philosophy of informed, critical thinking to meet evolving challenges and opportunities.

Externally, professional development activities such as conferences, workshops and professional associations are available. Within the University, the Human Resources department is committed to providing quality professional development opportunities to support career growth and professional excellence. These sessions address pertinent topics including first aid and CPR; ethics and professionalism; diversity; conflict management; engagement; work-life effectiveness/ and developing creativity, among others.

Programs on campus are announced at the beginning of the semester, by monthly flyers, and daily via internal communication. Additionally, employees have exclusive access to online training courses through SkillSoft and that focus on honing administrative professional, business and technical, and supervisory/management skills.

  • Instilling Integrity

At Stevenson, we require all members of our community to act with dignity and honesty while adhering consistently to the University's ethical codes. Stevenson employees are expected to model honesty, trust, respect, responsibility, and courage.

These values provide a framework for positive relationships between faculty, staff, and students. Consistency in practicing these values allows members of the Stevenson community to build and maintain long-term trust.

Stevenson encourages students to be proud of integrity, and to be engaged in promoting integrity through campus activities. The SAIC (Student Academic Integrity Committee) allows faculty, staff, and students to be a part of the process in educating their fellow community members about the importance of academic integrity. The committee created a University-wide Honor Pledge in 2015, and hosts events to increase campus awareness of academic integrity.

  • Promoting a Sense of Community

The University is an innovative, coeducational, independent institution offering undergraduate and graduate students a career-focused education marked by individualized attention, civility, and respect for difference. This same mentality is promoted among faculty and staff as the University embraces the common bonds and obligations within and beyond the campus while respecting individual and cultural differences.

Stevenson University has partnered with ComPsych, a leading national provider that offers a premiere employee assistance program for employees and their families. The no cost benefit is available 24/7 offering a variety of confidential resources including emotional support, work-life solutions such as finding child and elder care, and legal and financial guidance.
