Psychology News

Stevenson University professor of Psychology, Gary Popoli Ph.D, was recently featured on a local New York news channel produced by his daughter Gabby Popoli. Dr. Popoli gave an engaging lecture on the styles of parenting commonly found in our society. A link to the video can be found here.

Congratualtions Dr. Popoli on taking part in this wonderful opportunity!

Check out Dr. Ryan Schurtz's op-ed feature in the Baltimore Sun titled "Supergirl Power"

The piece focuses on the rise of heroines in the comic world, and more importantly the growing prominence of viable, less sexualized female portrayals in popular media. Take a look at Dr. Schurtz's charming experience with this phenomenon on the Baltimore Sun website. Dr. Schurtz has been known to write for the Baltimore Sun in the past, a trend that we hope continues!

RISE Stevenson will be hosting an open mic event on April 1st, 7:00 pm, in Rockland conference room A. This event will feature creative speakers from campus clubs speaking on issues such as gender, religion, sexual orientation, disabilities, race, and how bringing awareness to the words we use in our daily lives can change the inequalities we face.

There will also be a time for YOU to stand up and use your words to bring awareness and empower others. So come prepared with a poem, a dance, a song, words, or an idea, and start to initiate change!

Interested in speaking at our open mic? Speakers have 3 minutes to express themselves through a speech, a poem, a song, or any form of creative expression you desire to address an issue of inequality.

RISE (Reach out, Inspire, Strengthen, Empower) is a brand new, all inclusive initiative supported by the Stevenson University Psychology Department. It aims to provide educational experiences and eye-opening conversations between men and women. Their goal is to embody the issues facing all women of different sociocultural backgrounds and to provide community service opportunities along the way. The club also seeks to offer a source of mentoring for young women and act as a proactive voice for them, because when you empower women you empower everyone.
