Psychology News

Date: Mar 2016
Dr. Cecilia Cheung visited Stevenson University's Greenspring Campus from University of California, Riverside to discuss her research on the role of parents and teachers in children's learning. The first half of the event dealt with Dr. Cheung discussing her research where she emphasized a cross-cultural approach to the question. She enlightened Stevenson students as to the environment's role of children's motivation and achievement in school. The latter half of the event dealt with an engaging discussion between Dr. Cheung and the audience. We sincerely hope she visits again.
Humanistic Therapist Dr. Dyer P. Bilgrave, Sexologist Dr. Kate Thomas, Biological Psychologist Dr. Ingrid K. Tulloch, and Social Psychologist Dr. Ryan Schurtz discussed issues of the 'heart and of the pants' on a panel Tuesday night, March 29th. The panel event was hosted by the Psychology Club and moderated by Larry Fort. The first half of the event dealt with questions such as the role of monogamy in modern society and signs of weakness in a relationship. The second half dealt with questions asked by the audience, some of which dealt with the nature of fetishes and whether 'once a cheater always a cheater.'

Fourteen Stevenson Psychology students attended the 2016 Eastern Psychological Association research conference in New York City. This annual conference attracts academics from across the entire east coast to share new research and ideas in the field. We would like to thank Dr. Jeffrey Elliott in all of his diligence and patience with planning the trip, and all of the hard working students who were accepted, making Stevenson proud.
