Students planning to major in Fashion Design, Film & Moving Image, and Graphic Design are allowed to submit a portfolio of work to enhance their application and to be considered for talent-based scholarships.

Students from the Relationship of Design and Business class visited Stanley Black & Decker University, Fabrication Lab, and Dewalt design studio.

Jim Watson, the Director of DEWALT Cordless Expansion Product Marketing, gave students a presentation about the design process. Presentation was followed by a student led discussion about the role of design and research in the new product development....Click here to read more.



This last weekend, the Visual Communication Design majors traveled to New York City for the day. It was a cold rainy day, but we still had a fabulous time! We checked out the artist books at Printed Matter, the many galleries in Chelsea Gallery District, saw Tom Geismar visiting his own exhibition at the SVA Chelsea Gallery, struck speechless by the characters in Time Square (including the famous Naked Cowboy), and we also had a great time at the Museum of Arts and Design (MAD). Stevenson sophomore design students enrolled in VCD 210 Communication Design Studio started a collaborative project with Baltimore's Port Discovery Children Museum this week. As an exercise in design thinking, an educational toy project was launched by students visiting the museum.  Today, they staged many experiments designed to engage kids in co-creating the toys. In two weeks, students will return to Port Discovery with more refined ideas to test and expand upon. Stay tuned for more....Click here to read more.

O! PosterAlaina Hall can! Design Kudos for Alaina Hall, junior VCD major, who submitted her poster to the Baltimore chapter of AIGA O! Say poster competition. Alaina’s design received one of 20 Awards of Excellence. Her poster is currently featured with 19 professional graphic designers in the University of Baltimore’s Student Center Gallery. ...Click here to read more.

When the English Department decided to combine several of its publishing efforts and focus attention on a new media-rich online literary journal, the Art & Visual Communication design team jumped at the chance to help them develop names for the project. The Stevenson “clients”— Gerald Majer, the English Department professor overseeing the project and his new journal editor Ben Deigart— visited an upper level design studio class, where we reviewed the rules of brainstorming, handed out white board markers, and asked the groups to, “go crazy.”...Click here to read more.
