Southern High School students visit Stevenson University for a design workshop

Students from Southern High School in Anne Arundel County traveled to Stevenson’s School of Design to participate in a workshop led by professor Inna Alesina. Using household materials such as cereal boxes, pool noodles and paper towel rolls, each student was tasked with creating a prototype to solve a challenge they were given. They were encouraged to think past existing solutions and rather consider the properties of the materials for their designs. This open-ended prompt inspired students to think outside the box and have some hands-on fun in the process.

Different materials were combined to create their prototypes

Students brainstormed and bounced ideas off of each other for their solutions
