School of Design Party

The School of Design Leadership Team hosted the 8th Annual School of Design End of the Year Party for more than 120 students, faculty, and staff. Forest Bell, Amanda Hostalka, Sonya Lawyer, Mark Lortz, Janine Mills, George Moore, Chris Reed, Judy Snyder, and Nadene Vevea, grilled burgers and hot dogs, served the food, and made certain the buffet was stocked, while SOD student clubs planned games and activities, including a photo booth and silkscreen t-shirt making. Academic awards were presented to graduating seniors in all four departments and Assistant Professor Christopher Metzger received the 2019 School of Design Dean’s Award for Excellence for his dedication to providing creative and enriching experiences for all students. The party was held in the School of Design backyard and a fun time was had by all!

Ksenia Dobbs receives scholarship
Ksenia Dobbs received scholarship for Momenta Workshop

Senior VCD major Ksenia Dobbs has received The West Award to attend the Momenta Workshop in New Orleans this Spring. As a student on the Photography track in the VCD program, Ksenia met with Jaime Windon, aka "The Blonde Photographer", during the Advisory Board Portfolio Reviews in December. Upon reviewing Ksenia's portfolio, she suggested that she look into this opportunity.

Momenta arose when three media professionals in top photography companies saw a need to change the industry through public storytelling. Their goal was to "find like-minded photographers around the world and encourage social change with powerful images."

Ksenia stated, "I met Jaime Windon at the portfolio review and she told me about the Momenta Workshops and that I would be a great fit. So, I looked into the workshops and found one working with non-profits in New Orleans which sounds amazing except they’re like $1750. They have scholarships you can apply for so I applied for The West Award that pays for the whole workshop. I sent them the video about Erma and a cover letter talking about my experience with her family and how the workshops would further my career goals. I got the award!"

Dobbs also expressed that her experience in VCD 410: Portfolio and Professional Development helped her prepare for the reviews, and ultimately land the award and this opportunity.

Congratulations Ksenia, we're excited to see what this experience holds for you!

School of Design at Fan Fare
The School of Design had fun at Fan Fare during Homecoming 2015.

Faculty, staff, students, alumni and families enjoyed Fan Fare in the School of Business parking lot before the Homecoming football game. Fans packed the area to socialize and enjoy food, games and giveaways to show their Stevenson pride.

The School of Design tent was busy all morning dishing out nachos, raising money for Socktober, and of course handing out the highly desired "School of Design Rocks" foam fingers to excited fans!

Foam Fingers
Our foam fingers were popular among fans and were snatched up quickly.

SOD Alumni at Fan Fare
We love seeing the familiar faces of alumni!

Soctober at Fan Fare
Every dollar given towards Socktober bought a pair of socks for the men at the Helping Up Mission in Baltimore.

Serving nachos at Fan Fare
Nachos, salsa and cheese—a tailgating favorite!

Wide Angle Youth Media portraits
“I was honored to host a group of young media students from the Wide Angle Youth Media group yesterday at Stevenson University. I held a short mini-lecture on using grid-spots, gels, snoots, and radio controlled studio strobes. They were so excited and enthusiastic! Here are the portraits from the students.” — Jefferson J.
