On September 29, 2016, the VCD 440 Designing For A Target studio traveled with the Irvine Nature Center to the Baltimore American Indian Center to discuss clan encampment scenario proposals. This Irvine project is slated to open in the fall of 2017 in Center’s newly acquired Bauer property.
Over the course of two-hours, an in-depth discussion unfolded. Topics discussed included traditional encampment building structure materials and systems, encampment lifestyles, and spiritual practices. Next steps for this project will include envisioning the encampment site layout, the walking experience to the encampment site and designing wayfinding graphics.
This encampment design project is just one example out of many service -earning projects that Stevenson University maintains with the Irvine Nature Center.
