Film and Moving Image News

Next week, on Wednesday, September 13, the Creative Alliance at the Patterson, in downtown Baltimore, will screen two films by Stevenson FMI Class of 2017 students: Black Bath, by Chris Hessler; and 1 in 5, by Rachel Pollock and Morgan Taylor. You may find information about tickets here:

This evening, at Stevenson's Fall 2017 Involvement Fair, members of the National Broadcasting Society-Film & Moving Image club met new students to provide information about our activities. Upcoming events include a movie-trivia night and 72-Hour Film Festival (more information to follow in the future). Pictured, above, left to right, are: Bobby Morison (Public Relations), Will Johnston (Treasurer), John Travers (Secretary) and Adam Vaughn (President). We have a lot more members (and, yes, some women), but are always looking for more! The club is officially a local chapter of the National Broadcasting Society, which has an honors society, Alpha Epsilon Rho, attached. For more information, email Adam Vaughn or the club's advisor, FMI Chair Chris Reed.

Welcome back! Stay tuned for exciting information about what the Department of Film & Moving Image has planned for this year. In the meantime, check out the photos, above, from the set of Assistant Professor Chris Ernst's feature film. Class of 2017 graduates Rachel Pollock (Production Manager), Kara Stone (Key Grip/Gaffer), Gabby Sturgeon (Assistant Art Director) and Daniel Whitehead (Assistant Producer) – the only one not pictured – worked on Professor Ernst's film, produced by his independent studio, Bright Rectangle Films. The movie is an original adaptation of Fritz Lieber’s short story “The Hill and the Hole,” a quirky supernatural thriller set in the high desert of the Southwest. Principal photography took place on location in Colorado and New Mexico this July and August. The film will be completed Summer of 2018.

On Thursday, May 4, from 4-5pm, we will have a reception in our School of Design building in honor of an exhibit of FMI Senior Showcase Movie Posters. Then, on Thursday, May 11, starting at 7pm, we will screen the films advertised in those posters, but over on our original campus, 1525 Greenspring Valley Road, Stevenson, MD, 21153, in the Inscape Theatre. We invite you to come see the good capstone work our students can do. A reception begins at 5pm.
