STEVIE U 72 2021 Results

And the results are in from Friday night's screening of the 8 films submitted for STEVIE U 72 2021, an event managed by our FMI Club. To see all the movies, click on the above image or visit our Vimeo site.

  • First place + the audience award went to Connor Drake, Zach Garrigus and Andy Smialowski for Last Call.
  • Second place went to A.J. Brown, Hannah Kedzierski and Jalen Thomas for That Certain Shade of Heart.
  • Third place went to Jordan Shipe, Zhanna Snyder and Tina Spurgeon for Hell's Monthly Review.

Contestants had to each pick a different genre, and then work with the following three requirements:

  1. One person on screen at a time (if more than one person, then everyone on screen must wear a face mask of some kind)
  2. All shots must be done handheld
  3. Participants had the option to pick one of the two following challenges: a) The color red must be prominent in the film; b) A Shakespeare quote must be used.

Once the eight completed films were submitted on Monday, November 15, our three participating judges—Stevenson University President Elliot Hirshman, FMI alumna Robin Christine Farrell (Class of 2008) and local cinematographer Quinn Woverton—watched the movies and chose their Top 3. At the end of the screening on Friday, November 19, the audience (both in the Soundstage and virtual) then voted on their favorite, which received the audience award. Prizes consisted of Amazon gift cards and items generously donated by our sponsor, Canon.

Stevenson University's FMI Club is once again running its annual Stevie U 72 Film Festival. Filming and editing will take place Friday, November 12 (starting at 2pm), through Monday, November 15 (ending at 2pm). We will then screen the films on Friday, November 19, in the School of Design Soundstage (SD101) and virtually via BlueJeans. Sponsored and presented by Canon USA, this event is open to all, with restrictions explained in the next paragraph.

Because of COVID-related social-distancing requirements, anyone wishing to attend in person needs to sign up to do so here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/F9HRDFT. If you are unable to sign up in time or wish to attend virtually, here is a link to the event on BlueJeans: https://bluejeans.com/123532603/2652 .

Once the films are submitted on Monday, November 15, our three participating judges––Stevenson University President Elliot Hirshman, FMI alumna Robin Christine Farrell (Class of 2008) and local cinematographer Quinn Woverton––will watch the movies and choose their Top 3, which will each receive donated prizes from our sponsor, Canon, as well as additional gift cards. At the end of the screening on Friday, November 19, the audience (both in the Soundstage and virtual) will then vote on their favorite, which will also receive a prize.

See you on the 19th!

STEVIE U 72 2020

Stevenson University's FMI Club once again has planned its annual Stevie U 72 Film Festival, screening the movies made during this 72-hour filmmaking event on Friday, November 13, 2020, at 7pm (screening link here, or click on the image, above). Sponsored and presented by Canon USA, this event is open to all.

From 12pm on Friday, November 6, through 12pm on Monday, November 9, participating students, working in small, socially distanced crews, will make, following COVID-19 safety guidelines, short films that they write, produce, direct and edit after receiving the restrictions of genre and other elements at the Friday start. Once the festival closes, our three participating judges––Stevenson University President Elliot Hirshman, Spring 2020 FMI Artist-in-Residence Capella Fahoome, and FMI alumnus DJ Carmon (Class of 2017)––will watch the movies and choose their Top 3, which will each receive donated prizes from our sponsor, Canon. At the end of the screening on Friday, November 13, the virtual audience will then vote on their favorite, which will also receive a prize.

See you on the 13th!
