BACHELOR OF SCIENCE
We all have stories to tell. At Stevenson, learn how to inspire, teach, and communicate these stories via film and moving images. By the end of your second year in the program, you can select from the Cinematography/Editing track or the Producing/Writing track and begin taking courses in your specialized field, culminating in a senior project that integrates your aesthetic vision with your technical training. With internship experience enhancing your classroom learning, you’ll be ready to work with professionals in the field as soon as you graduate.
Want to go the extra mile? Our Bachelor’s to Master’s Option allows you to graduate with a master’s in as little as five years.
Graduates of the Film and Moving Images program will:
- Create films and other moving image projects, using current crafts and emerging technologies and grounded in a strong sense of personal style.
- Write film and moving image proposals and screenplays.
- Think and write critically about film and moving image history, aesthetics, global perspectives and production techniques.
- Navigate the business of film and moving image production and distribution.

Minors and Other Options
Minor in Film and Moving Image
The minor in film and moving image requires successful completion of a minimum of six courses and 18 credits with a FMI prefix. All course prerequisites must be met to be eligible to take the selected course for a minor. Please see an academic advisor for more information. General guidelines regarding minors may be found in the minors section of the catalog.

Each minor is designed to pair with students’ majors to give them additional career options, a competitive edge in the job market, and an opportunity to shape their Stevenson experience to meet their specific career goals.
Bachelor’s to Master’s Option
BS/MS options are available for students majoring in Film and Moving Image who wish to combine their bachelor’s coursework while working toward a Stevenson University Master’s Degree in one of the following:
Visual Arts and Design Portfolios
Students planning to major in Fashion Design, Film & Moving Image, and Graphic Design are allowed to submit a portfolio of work to enhance their application and to be considered for talent-based scholarships.

Stevenson’s School of Design offers portfolio-based Visual Arts Scholarships to incoming freshman and transfer students who plan to major in Fashion Design, Film & Moving Image, or Graphic Design.
Film and Moving Image News
The annual FMI Awards––popularly known as “The FMIs"––are Stevenson’s answer to the Oscars! The 2024 show will take place live in the Rockland Ballroom on our Owings Mills campus on Sunday, April 14, at 7pm.
For our twenty-third episode (and fifth of the 2023-2024 academic year), we welcome sophomore FMI students Monty Bynum and Ben Kohn to discuss the films La Chimera and The Listener. The former comes from Italian director A.
The Department of Film & Moving Image's Spring 2024 Artists-in-Residence, and wife-and-husband duo, are Melissa and Chris LaMartina, who will present their 2020 horror film What Happens Next Will Scare You at 7pm in the S.
Launch, Run, and Build your own Creative Business
Students majoring in Film and Moving Image can prepare to launch their own innovative enterprise with a professional minor in Entrepreneurship and Small Business Development.
