Every year Stevenson University holds an exhibit showcasing the work of our students. This past month Lacy Dejordy, a fashion design student at Stevenson, had her photography accepted into a special on campus exhibit entitled Beauty Inc, and I had the pleasure of interviewing her.

What was the most challenging part about creating this piece?

Probably just coming up with the concept for it.  Once I had the concept for it, it was easy from there, but it took a lot of thinking to try to actually figure out what I wanted to do, and what I wanted to say.

What was the concept?

So I wanted to do a transformational piece and show the transformation from ...Learn More

Do you believe in Magic? Not the type of magic where rabbits are pulled out of hats or coins that are magically pulled from behind your ear; but the magic that happens twice a year (February and August) in Las Vegas, Nevada.  It’s Magic Market Week, the largest global market for men’s and women’s apparel/footwear, where fashion designers, manufacturers and buyers go to buy and sell the latest fashion products. This semester eight lucky Stevenson fashion students attended this amazing event. Emily Haas, a senior fashion merchandising student was ...Learn More

Being a commuter at Stevenson University has its ups and downs, but mainly ups.

I transferred from my community college in Montgomery County, Maryland to Stevenson in 2013. I have moved three times since then and now live in Frederick County which is roughly 50 miles away. I’m a senior this semester majoring in Fashion Merchandising and have three part-time jobs along with going to school full-time. Before moving back to Maryland, I served eight years in the U.S. Navy with my family. I thought that was a busy life, but it really was much calmer compared to being a full-time student with a family. Even though now that I am out of the military and spending more time with my children, it seems there is never enough time in the day to take care of them and do school work.

My day starts at 4 a.m. I make breakfast for everyone, get myself together for the day, pack the baby’s bag and my school bag. By 5:30 a.m. I wake the older kids up to get ready for school. Depending on my class schedule, I leave at different times to drop the older kids at school and then drop off the younger ones at daycare. I then go to class. By the time I get home, I am so tired, but the day is not finished because dinner must be prepared. After dinner, I get my younger kids ready for bed and after that I can get some homework done. It may sound crazy and most days it is. I just love being a mom, and I love attending school and getting ready to venture into the fashion world.
