As a fashion design student at Stevenson University, I would like to share the many places where you can buy fabric for class projects. Where to buy fabric and how expensive is it were two questions I had as a new student to Stevenson. From going to my fashion classes and hearing fellow fashion students talk, I have learned where there are the best fabric deals near campus.

My first go to place is a nationwide chain of fabric stores called Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft stores. I have been a regular customer since I was eight years old. I love the fact that Jo- Ann’s has reasonably priced fabrics, a huge clearance section where all my projects are born from, and they give out coupons and discounts! Jo- Ann’s is also located very close to the Stevenson Owings Mills Campus on Reisterstown Road. They also have an online website that is useful http://www.joann.com with a store locator tab.

There is a wonderful, family owned, fabric store called A Fabric Place, located on Falls Road in Baltimore www.michaelsfabrics.com. This store sells designer remnants and notions (zippers, buttons, clasps, etc.) and even leather hides. I LOVE this store. It is the perfect resource for finding unique fabrics and notions. Plus, they offer Stevenson fashion students really great deals on purchases! I found some really nice Armani black fabric for $5.00. Of course I bought it! Bottom line: check this store out at least once!

Being so new to Stevenson myself, I will say that knowing about these two fabric stores will get you through the fashion program regardless of your fabric budget. I only buy clearance fabrics, except muslin, which I can never find on clearance. I actually spend very little on fabrics and notions for my fashion projects. These two fabric stores are my top picks for buying fabrics.
