Develop your individual voice in fashion design. At Stevenson, you’ll master the understanding of fashion and costume, consumer psychology, materials, and techniques of apparel construction. With studio work as a primary focus, you’ll have the hands-on experience needed for a successful career, even before crossing the stage with your diploma.
Want to go the extra mile? Our Bachelor’s to Master’s Option allows you to graduate with a master’s in as little as five years.
Graduates of the Fashion Design program will:
- Integrate the skills, theories, research and problem-solving methodologies, and behaviors of a practicing fashion design professional.
- Construct comprehensive design strategies considering sustainability in global, environmental, social and economic contexts.
- Formulate a personal design ideology considering historical, cultural, and social relevance/contexts.
- Synthesize design concepts employing areas of trend analysis, merchandising, consumer psychology, retailing, and materials to create strategically-targeted designs.
- Use appropriate industry terminology in the critique of fashion concepts and designs.
- Assemble a collection of finished fashion work for a defined audience demonstrating the application of industry knowledge and experience.

The Fundamentals of Fashion
Ayesha Malik
Fashion Design Major
“It’s a little intense, life-changing, and unforgettable,” describes Ayesha Malik about her experience as an international transfer student. From Lahore, Pakistan, where she completed her associate degree in Fashion Design from the Pakistan Institute of Fashion and Design, Ayesha found herself drawn to Stevenson University for continuing her undergraduate studies. “I fell in love with the university the moment I stepped foot on campus,” she says.

Minors and Other Options
Minor in Fashion Design
The minor in fashion design requires successful completion of a minimum of six courses and 18 credits with a FDES course prefix designator. SOD 395 may also be taken to as a course that will fulfill a minor requirement. All course prerequisites must be met to be eligible to take the selected course for a minor. Please see an academic advisor for more information. General information regarding minor requirements may be found in the minors section of the catalog.

Bachelor’s to Master’s Option
BS/MS options are available for students majoring in Fashion Design who wish to combine their bachelor’s coursework while working toward a Stevenson University Master’s Degree in one of the following:
Visual Arts and Design Portfolios
Students planning to major in Fashion Design, Film & Moving Image, and Graphic Design are allowed to submit a portfolio of work to enhance their application and to be considered for talent-based scholarships.

Visual Arts Scholarship
Stevenson’s School of Design offers portfolio-based Visual Arts Scholarships to incoming freshman and transfer students who plan to major in Fashion Design, Film & Moving Image, or Graphic Design.
Fashion Show
Each spring the Stevenson University Fashion Design Department features student work in their Annual Fashion Show. The show highlights original designs from courses taken during their four years in the Fashion Design Program. The show culminates with the senior class showcasing their collection comprised of seven looks.

Hello, my name is Symone Gordon, a First Year Fashion Design student here at StevensonUniversity. As it boils down to the end of Spring Semester 2024, I have come to reflect on myexperiences so far as a fashion design student.
Stevenson University students visited Ann Lowe’s Exhibit on October 13th to observe and learn about the history of Ann Lowe and how she impacted society through her admirable designs. Ann Lowe was an African American Coutur.
Karli Banas is a senior fashion design student at Stevenson who's showcasing her collection at this year's annual Stevenson University fashion show that is taking place on May 6th. She first started sewing as a Junior in High.
